Ambassadorial Scholarships

Our District 6710, which covers the western half of Kentucky from Frankfort, will select two to four to be awarded this scholarship annually. Money for these scholarships and other Foundation projects such as Group Study Exchange, PolioPlus and other international program is raised by contributions to the Rotary Foundation from Rotarians in our District 6710.

The Frankfort Rotary Club is seeking applicants for the Rotary Foundation Ambassadorial Scholarship. The prestigious Rotary Foundation Ambassadorial Scholarship is designed to promote international understanding.

Several individuals will be awarded scholarships worth up to $24,000. The scholarships include travel expenses, fees, room and board, and contingency funds for 9 months of study outside the United States during the 2010-2011 academic year. Several may be nominated from each club.

Although their academic studies will be important, scholars are expected to serve their home communities as unofficial "ambassadors of goodwill" from their home community in their host country. Scholars will make presentations before Rotary Clubs, District Rotary meetings, schools, civic organizations, and other forums in both their home country and in the study country hosting them.

Leadership skills and the potential to grow effectively as a leader are essential qualities for Ambassadorial Scholars. Scholars may not be assigned to areas of a country where they have already lived or studied except in unusual circumstances.

Different clubs may have different acceptance dates. The Frankfort Rotary Club will receive completed applications through March 1, 2009. Assistance and counseling for applicants is available. Top applications from each club will be submitted to the Rotary District Subcommittee. The Subcommittee will conduct mandatory personal interviews in a place to be identified in Kentucky on a Saturday, April, 2009 with applicants who complete written requirements. Awards are made by December 2009. Precise dates will follow.

Application forms describe several scholarship choices. This District 6710 Rotary Foundation Committee is offering the "Academic-Year Ambassadorial Scholarship."

Applicants need to contact any Rotarian immediately for more specific additional details, requirements and securing the application form. Application forms and information are downloadable.

Rotarians and their families are not eligible. Applicants must have completed two years of college course work prior to 2007 or have a secondary school education with two years employment.
